Almost 150 km of "velvet" track have been laid on the Gorky mainline.

Workers of the Gorky Railway have laid about 150 km of continuous welded rail (the so-called "velvet" track) since the beginning of this year. As part of the repairs they also replaced 46 turnouts.

At the moment major track repairs are underway on the sections "Orichi — Strizhi", "Strizhi — Lyangasovo", "Lyangasovo — Pozdino", "Falenki — Yar" in Kirov Oblast, as well as "Chernaya Rechka — Pudlingovy", "Klenovsky — Bisertsky Zavod" in Sverdlovsk Oblast, "Satis — Shatki" in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, "Fedulovo — Kovrov" in Vladimir Oblast and at Kizner station in Udmurtia.

Railway personnel are replacing the rail-and-sleeper assembly and turnouts, laying continuous welded rail, performing deep ballast cleaning and welding joints on sections of the track. In total this year Gorky Railway workers will carry out major repairs on over 200 km of track and replace more than 100 turnouts.

The track maintenance campaign helps ensure and maintain a high level of traffic safety during the transportation of passengers and freight, as well as to increase train speeds.
