A bill has been introduced in the State Duma that proposes blocking on social networks content containing obscene language, the Russian Agency for Legal and Judicial Information reports.

It is proposed to amend Article 15.1.1 of the Federal Law "On Information, Information Technologies and Information Protection." The explanatory note to the bill states that after the law is adopted "authors of content containing obscene language, before posting on digital platforms and social networks, will have to take measures to remove or mask it, including re-editing or using an audio signal, in order to avoid their content being blocked by decision of the prosecutor's offices."

The bill's authors note that at present content containing obscene language is not blocked. At the same time, in the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation, swear words are considered an indication of an offense.
