The sawmill manager was fined for injuring an employee with a birch tree.

According to the regional investigative committee, the evidence collected by the Omutninsky Interdistrict Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Kirov Region was sufficient to recognize the head of a logging enterprise in the region as guilty of committing a crime under Part 1 of Article 143 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of safety requirements resulting in reckless infliction of serious harm to a person's health).

The investigation established that at the end of January 2025, the convicted individual, being responsible for occupational safety at the enterprise, allowed one of the employees to conduct logging operations in the Omutninsky forestry area without proper training and knowledge testing. This untrained worker, using a chainsaw, felled a fir tree which, upon falling, broke the top of a nearby dead-standing birch. A fragment of the tree fell on another worker performing timber felling.

The injured man sustained combined head and cervical spine injuries, resulting in serious health damage. The court, having reviewed the case, found the head of the logging enterprise guilty and sentenced him to a fine.
