According to the report from the authorities, one in three pedestrian accidents in the Kirov region occurred at a pedestrian crossing. Four people died in such accidents, and 82 pedestrians were injured.
"Most of these accidents happened in the evening hours, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. During twilight and at night, pedestrian visibility on the road decreases, making it difficult for drivers to notice pedestrians in time, especially in the fall on unlit sections of the road. Reflective elements on clothing, bags, and backpacks will make pedestrians more visible on the road," noted the regional State Traffic Safety Inspectorate.
The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate also emphasized that drivers approaching a pedestrian crossing should slow down to the recommended speed, pay attention to pedestrians approaching the crossing, and give way to pedestrians crossing or already on the roadway. According to traffic rules, drivers must yield to pedestrians crossing or stepping onto the roadway. When turning left or right at a pedestrian crossing, drivers must give priority to pedestrians crossing the road. It is prohibited to overtake another vehicle, stop, or park on the pedestrian crossing or within five meters before it.
