Experts evaluated the speed and coverage of telecom operators in Kirov.
In the first half of 2025, the operator increased the median download speed in the region by nearly 12% to 41.64 Mbps compared to the first half of the previous year. MegaFon demonstrated the best result based on approximately 39,000 tests conducted by mobile internet users across all operators' networks in the region.
The company also strengthened its position in the Kirov region through active infrastructure development: since the beginning of the year, the operator has modernized and built over 70 telecommunications facilities, including in the regional capital. Improvements also affected small settlements, regional and federal highways.
Overall in Russia, Ookla® analysts analyzed 14.28 million measurements performed on more than 2 million unique devices by subscribers of the BIG4 operators using the Speedtest® app. MegaFon's median download speed increased by 12.36% over the year to 43.74 Mbps, and upload speeds rose by 7.11%, reaching 11.45 Mbps. High performance amid growing mobile internet consumption allowed the operator to confirm its leader status for the ninth consecutive year.
When assessing coverage, Ookla® experts conducted a comprehensive analysis of service quality on each 5 km² area across the country where mobile coverage exists. To achieve more accurate measurements, data from at least two different devices were analyzed on each site. Over 2.15 billion measurements collected from 2.88 million gadgets across Russian regions were studied. For this parameter, MegaFon has also been the leader for the fourth year in a row. In the first half of 2025, the operator's coverage area increased by 17.4%.
"Improving network quality amid the constant growth of mobile traffic consumption is one of our key objectives. We are expanding LTE coverage areas and conducting re-farming in most regions of the country. Despite external challenges, we continue implementing advanced technological solutions: enhancing infrastructure reliability with new data centers. For example, this year we built data centers in Yekaterinburg and Tver, and in the near future, we plan to launch two more major facilities in Saint Petersburg and Novosibirsk," said MegaFon's CTO, Alexey Titov.
MegaFon, jointly with BUREAU 1440, also plans to develop satellite communication based on a low-earth orbit constellation.
