The State Duma passed the law "against giant hogweed."

The State Duma deputies approved in the third reading amendments to the Land Code of the Russian Federation and separate legislative acts concerning the protection of lands from the proliferation of invasive plants.

According to the State Duma website, under the law, landowners of any plots will be obliged to control weed plants, such as giant hogweed, which cause damage to the environment. The Duma noted that there is some regulation concerning agricultural lands related to weed control, but this issue remains unregulated for all other land categories.

The adopted document requires the subjects of the Russian Federation to determine the list of invasive plants and methods of combat — measures, techniques, agrochemicals, etc. This is necessary to establish a specific algorithm for weed control in each territory.
