Kirov residents were told why they shouldn't pick up found baby hares.
The second wave of baby hare births has begun, and many people, upon encountering them, mistakenly think that the juveniles have been abandoned. In reality, this is not the case, reports the Wild Animals Rehabilitation Center "Big Nest."
"The female hare always returns to her babies to feed them. But she comes exactly where she left her offspring. Taking a baby hare means almost certainly condemning it to death: less than 5% of animals survive in captivity, and those raised at home and released back into the wild rarely survive," noted wildlife volunteers.
Help should only be provided in extreme cases: if a baby hare has been brought by a cat or dog, if there is a fire threat, or if the little animal is on a construction site or other technical area. In all other situations, it is better to just pass by.
