In half a year, 188 drivers in the Kirov region were caught repeatedly driving under the influence.
In six months, 83 traffic accidents involving drunk drivers or those who refused to undergo alcohol testing occurred in the region. These accidents resulted in 15 deaths and 103 injuries. Compared to the same period last year, the number of fatalities decreased by 21%, while the number of injured increased by 24%.
Such accidents most often happen in populated areas, but the most severe cases occur on rural roads. The highest number of incidents involving intoxicated drivers are recorded on Saturdays, especially between six and eight in the evening.
Traffic police officers catch between five and ten drunk drivers daily. A total of 1,747 such cases have been recorded over six months, 188 of which are repeat offenses. Offenders face a fine of 45,000 rubles and license suspension for up to two years. Repeat violations may lead to criminal liability.
As a result of 43 court rulings on similar cases, most drivers received sentences involving mandatory or corrective labor, with one being sentenced to imprisonment. More than a hundred cases are still under consideration.
