CPRF: The fight against renaming will continue

On Friday, July 11, due to the city administration declining to hold public protest events (or proposing to hold them in Kostino), KPRF representatives held a deputation meeting in the Friendship Park.

They were attended by the First Secretary of the Kirov City Committee of the KPRF and city council deputy Anastasia Vorobyeva, as well as the head of the KPRF faction and city council deputy Mikhail Kremlev.

According to them, they decided to hold an "open meeting with discussions" to share their future plans. Six court hearings have taken place regarding the renaming. They plan to appeal each court decision. The process will be lengthy, but "the topic is not closed yet," noted the Kirov communists.

Vorobyeva and Kremlev stated that many people either do not know about the street renaming or believe that since the signs are already being put up, continuing is pointless, but the deputies have a different opinion and decided to "continue the fight."

In their view, the wave of renaming is preparation and a "test to see how people will react" if the authorities decide to rename the city from Kirov to Vyatka. Unfortunately, the representatives of the faction say that Kirov residents are not ready to take to the streets: most show their dissatisfaction only on social media, and there are very few legal formats for live communication. However, the communists plan to transition their audience from "online" to "offline."

Considering that the event was held during "rush hour" in the Friendship area, where traffic jams reach 9-10 points every morning and evening, many people attended the meeting. One of them was the First Secretary of the Kirov Regional Committee of the KPRF, Sergey Mamaev.

"The main goal today is to explain to the people, and we need to oppose the renaming of the streets, which many residents of the city are against. Court sessions have taken place, people have come, the hall was full, but they were not allowed in, and they stood outside. And the authorities are not paying attention to this. Especially as the SVO is ongoing. Today, they sing and dance on television, while people are dying. And today, we should not behave this way, not hold a feast during the plague. Soldiers come to me. I had one just yesterday, he told terrible stories," he shared.
