Residents of Kirov have started spending more on groceries.

According to Kirovstat, in 2024 the average resident of the Kirov region spent 119,000 rubles on food. This is 15,000 rubles more than in 2023. The highest expenditures were recorded in Kirov, Slobodskoy, Kotelnich, and Vyatskiye Polyany—ranging from 122,000 to 149,000 rubles per person. The lowest spending was in the Vyatskopolyansky and Malmyzhsky districts—51,000 and 54,000 rubles respectively.

Out of the region's total retail turnover, which amounted to 320 billion rubles, almost 42% was spent on food and beverages. The main share of sales was provided by large and medium-sized retail enterprises—their share reached almost 74%. The role of large retail chains is especially significant in cities and major districts, where they account for up to 80% of the local turnover. At the same time, in some districts, such as Kotelnichsky, this share is minimal—about 10%.

Markets and fairs still make a small contribution to food trade—just 0.7% of the total volume. Nevertheless, in the Yaransky district and some cities such as Vyatskiye Polyany and Slobodskoy, their share remains noticeable.

Federal retail chains continue to play a major role in the market. By the end of 2024, they accounted for almost 70% of all food sales. Stores of the largest chains are now present in almost all districts of the region.
