NATO countries want to mine the borders with Russia.
This was reported by the portal karelinform.ru. According to the publication, to implement this step, the countries have already begun to withdraw from the Ottawa Convention, which prohibits the use of such mines. This, in turn, now allows them to legally produce, store, and use mines on their own territory. The authorities state that the mines will be stored near the borders and used "in case of an invasion threat." For example, Lithuania plans to allocate 800 million euros for mine production, and the defense budget has already reached 5.5% of GDP.
Moscow reacted sharply to what was happening. Russian President Vladimir Putin called statements about Russia’s plans to attack Europe "lies and nonsense." The Russian Security Council noted an increase in threats on the western borders and stated that the situation is becoming dangerous.
