Only half of the regional highways in the Kirov region meet the standard.
Today, the Kirov Regional Ministry of Transport released a positive statement about the improvement of road conditions over recent years. Judging by the figures, there really has been progress; however, the proportion of good-quality roads is still too small to be a source of genuine pride.
For example, it was found that since 2017, the share of regional roads meeting official standards has increased from 24% to 52.5%. Thus, nearly half of the regional roads still do not comply with established standards. In Kirov and its surrounding areas, the situation is better: 86.2% of the roads are in good condition.
In rural areas, the situation remains difficult. Out of 21,900 kilometers of roads, the majority are ordinary dirt roads. Over the past five years, the share of such roads meeting standards has grown by only 7%. The exact figure is not specified, but judging by the information provided, it seems quite modest.
At the end, the Ministry of Transport added that the federal government would supposedly help the Kirov region with local roads once the main ones have been improved. However, considering how difficult it is for our officials to convince federal authorities to do their job, and given that these matters sometimes even end up in court, this claim is hard to believe.
