Drivers in Russia will be required to change lanes when approaching cars with special signals

The Russian Ministry of Transport has proposed to amend the Rules of the road, which will oblige drivers to change lanes when approaching special vehicles with blue flashing lights and sound signals. This is reported by the newspaper Kommersant, referring to the draft of the department.

Today, the rules only require giving way to such vehicles, which formally does not impose specific actions on drivers. The proposed amendments clarify that motorists will need to change lanes in advance, and if necessary, pull over to the side of the road so as not to interfere with the movement of operational vehicles.

The changes will affect ambulances, fire departments, police, as well as vehicles transporting dignitaries. In addition, it will be forbidden to move near such vehicles, overtake them, or otherwise interfere.

Special attention in the project is paid to the movement of columns. If there is at least one escort vehicle with special signals in the convoy, all drivers must give way, even if there is no color scheme on board the vehicles.

The Ministry of Transport explained that the changes are aimed at ensuring the security of state security facilities in the context of a special military operation and increased terrorist threats.
