In the Kirov region, they will help former prisoners and reconcile schoolchildren.
Today, the committee members discussed an initiative to introduce a probation institute in the region. This measure is designed to help former convicts successfully adapt to life in society. Every year, about 4,000 people are released from prison in the region, many of whom lose their social ties while serving their sentences, which often leads to the commission of repeated crimes. Last year alone, 2,353 crimes were committed by previously convicted persons in the region.
In particular, the initiative involves providing assistance to former prisoners in finding employment, and employers who hire them may be offered partial reimbursement of labor costs. The committee members unanimously supported the bill.
In addition, the meeting discussed the work of mediation or reconciliation services that operate in educational institutions of the Kirov region. According to the Ministry, 253 such services have been created in the region, of which 214 operate in schools. They help resolve conflicts between students, teachers, and parents. Over the past year, the number of such services has increased by 8%. The authorities plan to create similar services in the fields of healthcare and social protection.
