7% of families in Russia live in cramped conditions
According to a joint study by VTsIOM and DOM.According to the Russian Federation, about 7% of Russian families live in conditions where less than 10 square meters of living space per person. The majority of citizens (59%) have 10-30 square meters.
The survey showed that 45% of families consider the current number of rooms in housing insufficient for comfortable living, and among families with children, this figure reaches 60%. Experts note that the housing issue directly affects the demographic situation: 28.2 million Russians of reproductive age postpone the birth of children, including due to cramped living conditions. This is reported on the website of the Unified resource of developers.
Other factors include rising prices for second homes in large cities. Despite the active housing construction, the average housing provision in Russia (28.8 sq.m. m per person) does not reflect the situation in individual families.
As part of the National Infrastructure for Life project, it is planned to increase the figure to 33 square meters per person by 2030, and to 38 square meters by 2036, according to instructions from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Families with children and those planning to replenish make up the bulk of those in need of better housing conditions — 14.6 million households. They account for 54% of the solvent demand for housing in the medium term, and more than 4 million families plan to get a mortgage in the next five years.
Mikhail Goldberg, head of the State Corporation's Analytical Center, stressed that in order to solve the housing issue, it is necessary to increase supply volumes, including through individual housing construction and support for apartment housing projects.
