Provided an account — helped a fraudster: what you need to know in order not to become an accomplice
In Russia, the facts of remote fraud committed by foreign call centers using Russian accounts in social networks and messengers are increasingly being recorded. Many of these "accounts" belong to Russian citizens, including minors, and were also rented out for a fee based on an online advertisement.
At the moment, users of social networks and messengers have the opportunity to use programs to find out information about other users. As a result, scammers have developed a demand for accounts registered in Russia several years ago. Often, scammers either buy them out or rent them for a certain period of time.
Even children are involved in the criminal business. In this case, the attackers act through online game chats and popular TV channels.
Irina Volk gave an example: a teenager from the Kostroma region gave his account to a foreign call center for Russians for 1,500 rubles. Unknown employers warned him about their intentions and clarified that it was safe. But as a result, the student actually became accomplices in crimes.
Young citizens are urged not to make fatal mistakes, not to agree to questionable offers from strangers on the Internet. Accounts sold or leased can be used not only for fraudulent schemes, but also for organizing other serious and especially serious crimes, such as terrorism, extremism, extortion, and so on. In addition, it is necessary to contact parents and guardians, as well as social workers and teachers. The information space of minors and their financial affairs are under your control.
