Alimony after 18: The Ombudsman called for speeding up the adoption of the law for children's students
Tatiana Moskalkova called for the speedy adoption of amendments to the Family Code that will allow adult children studying in educational institutions to receive alimony. The Ombudsman noted that formally reaching the age of 18 does not always mean financial independence, especially if a young man or girl is still in school.
"It would be fair to supplement the Family Code with a norm on the right to receive alimony for adult children studying in educational institutions," Moskalkova said, quoted by TASS.
She stressed that the relevant draft law has already been developed by the Russian Ministry of Justice and called for speeding up the process of its submission to the State Duma.
This initiative is not new. Earlier, there were proposals to pay alimony to Russians under the age of 23, provided that they enrolled in full-time education at an educational institution after graduation. The adoption of such a law could significantly ease the financial situation of many young people and their parents by providing support during their education.

Alimony after 18: The Ombudsman called for speeding up the adoption of the law for children's students
The Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia, Tatiana Moskalkova, has taken the initiative to speed up the consideration of a draft law providing for the payment of alimony to adult children continuing their education. In her opinion, the current legislation does not take into account the financial dependence of many 18-year-olds who are still receiving education.
