On August 31, employees of the Kotelnich House of Culture published a photo on their social media page of a bear cub wandering at night near the building. They reported that a man scared the animal away, and it ran towards the "Skazka" kindergarten.
Shortly after this post appeared, a state inspector from the Center for the Protection of Wildlife surveyed the area around the House of Culture, the nearest section of forest, and the bank of the Vyatka River. However, the specialist found neither the bear cub nor any traces of it. The people he met had not heard anything about the animal.
The Ministry of Ecology notes that the bear cub may have entered the city in search of food, during seasonal migration, or while transitioning to independent living.
To prevent such occurrences in the future, local hunters have been urged to hunt bears more frequently. Additionally, authorities will discuss with the police and hunters what to do in the event of new wild animal appearances in the city.
