"Date that has no right to be forgotten": VyatSU honored the memory of the victims of the terrorist attack in Beslan

      Every year on September 3, Vyatka State University, along with the entire country, pays tribute to the victims of terrorist acts. On this commemorative date, a documentary film screening was organized for college students at the university. "In our lives, there are dates that have no right to be forgotten. One of them is September 3, 2004. During the festive line-up in honor of Knowledge Day, terrorists attacked School No. 1 in Beslan. More than 1,000 people found themselves as hostages, 334 of whom died during the rescue operation. A visual immersion into those events will allow everyone to touch the pain and compassion, to become part of this tragedy. Your participation in watching the film is not just an act of remembrance, but an important contribution to the formation of historical truth and the moral backbone of future generations," said Yuri Kuvaldin, Vice-Rector for Youth Policy and Educational Activities at VyatGU, addressing the students. From the screen, witnesses of those terrible events—mothers who lost their children and a surviving student—shared their memories of that fateful line-up in 2004. Their words about the horror they experienced, about every second filled with fear and despair, pierced the hall to the depths of the soul, leaving no heart in the audience indifferent. On the Day of Solidarity in the Fight Against Terrorism, we bow our heads before all the victims of the tragedy in Beslan, before the victims of other terrorist attacks, as well as before the law enforcement officers who gave their lives in the rescue of hostages. Their feat and courage are an eternal lesson for all of us.
