Russians are warned about "suspicious neighbors."
Fraudsters have come up with a new scheme to steal the personal data of Russians. The criminals write to users in private messages pretending to be neighbors and report that they have noticed a suspicious person near their apartment or house. After that, they offer to click on a link to a photo or video. The dangerous scheme is warned about by "Obyasnyaem.rf."
In reality, the link may contain malware. Once installed, it can gain access to SMS, photos, confirmation codes, social media accounts, and other information stored on the smartphone.
To avoid becoming a victim of fraudsters, do not rush to open suspicious links and files, even if the message seems plausible. If the "neighbor" persistently offers to view a photo or video, it is better to verify the information through a common chat for the building or entrance. If necessary, you can also contact the management company or call the number 112.
