Eyewitnesses reported that the victim was crossing the pedestrian crossing when the driver of one of the cars got out and hit him several times. This story caught the attention of the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin. He instructed the acting head of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Kirov region, Sultan Orazayev, to initiate a criminal case and report on the established circumstances.
