The Vyatka Diocese reported the death of Archpriest Gennady Sukharev.
On August 23, at the age of 81, retired cleric of the Vyatka Diocese, Archpriest Gennady Sukharev, passed away. According to the diocese, the cause of death was health issues.
Farewell to Father Gennady will take place at the Assumption Cathedral of the Trifonov Monastery. On Monday, August 24, at 5:00 PM, an evening service with a memorial panikhida will begin. From 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM, believers will have the opportunity to say goodbye to the clergyman.
On Tuesday, August 25, at 7:40 AM, Hours and Divine Liturgy will commence in the cathedral. The funeral service is scheduled for 9:30 AM.
Gennady Sukharev was born on July 23, 1945, in the village of Sandalovo, Urzhum District. After serving in the army, he graduated from a vocational school in Malmyzh, and in 1977, he graduated from the Moscow Theological Academy.
In 1978, Gennady Sukharev was ordained as a deacon, and in 1986, as a priest. For decades, he served in churches in Kirov, including the Holy Seraphim Cathedral, Trinity Church, and the Assumption Cathedral of the Trifonov Monastery. He also served as the rector of several parishes.
In 2021, Archpriest Gennady Sukharev was awarded a high liturgical-hierarchical honor—the right to celebrate the Divine Liturgy with the Royal Doors open until the "Our Father" prayer. He was also entrusted with the ministry of spiritual advisor to the Vyatka Diocese.
Since August 2021, the clergyman had been retired due to health reasons, while retaining the right to serve.
The diocese notes that Father Gennady was respected among the clergy and parishioners. He is remembered as a kind and sensitive person, ready to offer spiritual and practical advice.
