Russian drones will grow potatoes.
The text discusses an integrated approach to pest control in potato fields located in risky agricultural zones—northern territories where farming is complicated by a short growing season, frost, overwatering, and droughts. A complex of three drones was used for processing, which conducted aerial photography and applied substances to the soil, as reported by "Gazeta.ru."
Anton Saveliev, head of the laboratory of autonomous robotic systems at the St. Petersburg Scientific Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, noted that the experiments managed to increase yield by 15.2% compared to traditional production using ground equipment. He emphasized that final conclusions about the advantages of the method could only be made after repeated tests over several years and a detailed economic analysis.
Economist Sergey Malikov previously stated that during the potato season, prices in stores drop due to an oversupply; however, self-cultivation requires fertilizers, water, tools, and time.
