      Doctors at the Kirov Regional Clinical Hospital provided assistance to two elderly patients with severe diseases of the biliary system. They used minimally invasive technologies instead of traditional open surgeries.

      According to the Ministry of Health, one of the patients was 95 years old. The woman was urgently transported to the hospital with acute inflammation caused by stones in the gallbladder and bile ducts. The surgeons performed the treatment in two stages: first, they endoscopically removed the stones from the bile duct, and then laparoscopically removed the inflamed gallbladder. After the surgery, the pensioner was discharged in satisfactory condition.

      Another patient was an 85-year-old woman with large stones in the bile duct. Due to their size, it was not possible to remove the concretions immediately, so the doctors first placed a stent to restore bile flow. After a few months, the surgeons performed a repeat minimally invasive procedure, removed the stent, and extracted the stones. This approach allowed them to avoid open surgery and gave the patient the opportunity to recover between stages of treatment.
