In the Kirov region, the number of traffic accidents involving crossing into oncoming traffic has increased.
According to the State Traffic Inspectorate, in the Kirov region, there were 55 road traffic accidents from January to June 2026 related to driving into oncoming traffic in places where it is prohibited by road signs or markings. This is 120% more than in the same period last year. As a result of these accidents, 11 people died. Compared to the first half of 2025, the number of fatalities increased by 37.5%. Another 112 people were injured — this figure increased by 148.9%. The severity of the consequences of such traffic accidents in the region was 8.9 fatalities per 100 injured. In the Volga Federal District, which includes the Kirov region, there were 409 accidents from January to June related to prohibited entry into oncoming traffic. This is 25.5% more than the previous year. In these accidents, 129 people died, and 735 people were injured. Across Russia, there were 1,730 accidents in the first half of the year related to driving into oncoming traffic in prohibited places. In these accidents, 529 people died, and 3,014 people were injured. Compared to the same period last year, the number of such incidents in the country increased by 45.1%, the number of fatalities increased by 29.7%, and the number of injured increased by 47%.
