In case of possible danger, residents of Kirov were advised to take shelter in basements.
In Kirov, there are 142 civil defense protective structures. This information was provided by the city administration in response to a request from Newsler.ru.
Currently, the regional center has 90 shelters and 52 hideouts. Most of the shelters are located on the premises of enterprises and organizations that are required to maintain them in readiness in accordance with the law. They are primarily intended for the protection of employees of such organizations.
The administration also reported that a draft resolution has been prepared, which will approve a list of underground facilities suitable for sheltering the population. It will include about 900 objects.
The list is planned to include:
shelters owned by the municipality;
basements of apartment buildings;
basement premises of administrative buildings;
underground parking lots;
underground pedestrian crossings.
Currently, the document is undergoing the approval process. After its approval, the list will be published on the official website of the Kirov administration. There, residents will also be able to find out which shelters are located near their place of residence.
The city hall noted that the shelters and hideouts located on the premises of enterprises and organizations are well-maintained and regularly serviced.
Separately, the authorities spoke about municipal facilities. The city owns 36 shelters that were transferred from federal ownership in 2023-2026. Some of them require repairs. For this purpose, a "roadmap" was approved back in January 2024, planned until 2030.
According to the administration, by July 1, 2026, seven municipal shelters will be capital repaired, and by the end of the current year, three more facilities are planned to be put in order.
At the same time, the administration did not specify the total capacity of the official shelters and hideouts, nor did it report how many residents they can accommodate in case of necessity. It is also unclear whether the existing protective structures will be sufficient to shelter all Kirov residents.
In addition to the official protective structures, in case of necessity, the basements and semi-basements of apartment buildings, commercial and administrative buildings, underground parking lots, and pedestrian crossings can be used for sheltering the population.
