By the numbers: a new procedure for selling gasoline is being introduced in the Kirov region.
In the Kirov region, additional restrictions on the sale of gasoline are being introduced. This was announced by Governor Alexander Sokolov after a night monitoring of the situation at gas stations. According to him, during the observation, it became clear that many motorists come not for a full tank but to top up with 7–15 liters. There were also recorded cases where drivers, despite previously made decisions, filled canisters or repeatedly pumped 30 liters at one pump. Additionally, queues sometimes hindered the approach of vehicles with left-side gas tanks. Starting today, employees of the traffic police, patrol service, and National Guard will be on duty at gas stations. They will maintain order, while gas station staff will regulate the flow of vehicles. From midnight on July 11, gasoline will be dispensed according to the state registration numbers of vehicles: On even days of the month, vehicles with numbers starting with the digits 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8 will be able to refuel. On odd days, vehicles with numbers starting with the digits 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 will be able to refuel. Gas stations have also been recommended to provide information about the time of resuming gasoline sales, and residents of the region are planned to be informed about the measures taken via SMS messages. According to regional authorities, fuel supplies continue daily. After negotiations with suppliers, the volume of gasoline supplies from "Lukoil-Uralnefteprodukt" has been increased from 300 to 400 tons per day, and the "Dvizhenie" gas station network has started receiving fuel from "Tatneft." At the same time, authorities believe that one of the reasons for the shortage is the sharply increased demand. According to their data, if in the same period last year the region consumed about 380 tons of gasoline per day, this figure has now risen to 500 tons. In Sokolov's opinion, the main reason is the panic demand.
