Fraudsters lure Russians with links through fake noise complaints.
Recently, messaging apps have been reporting the distribution of messages that exploit several psychological weaknesses of individuals. Unknown senders notify citizens that a complaint about noise has been received from neighbors at their residence. After this, the recipient is asked to follow a link to review the details and provide written explanations regarding the incident, reports the portal "Lenta.ru." According to Ivan Solovyov, the head of the project "Don't Be Deceived," quoted by "Lenta.ru," this scheme is based not only on simple curiosity. Scammers bet on a person's desire to quickly clear themselves of suspicion and prove that they are not involved in the alleged violation. This dual motivation, according to the expert, increases the likelihood that the recipient will click on the sent link without thinking. Specialists point out that any such notifications received in personal messages should raise alarms. Official structures do not use messaging apps to summon individuals regarding household noise issues and certainly do not require immediate action on external internet addresses. The only safe course of action upon receiving such a message is to ignore it and under no circumstances click on the suspicious link to avoid putting personal data and accounts at risk.
