In the Kirov region, the number of abortions has decreased over the year.
As of the end of 2025, there were 3,079 registered abortions in the Kirov region, according to data published by the Ministry of Health in the Unified Interagency Information and Statistical System (EMISS). The dynamics over the past few years show a steady decline:
2023 - 3,538;
2024 - 3,204;
2025 - 3,079.
In 2024, according to the Ministry of Health, the share of women in the region who, after consulting with medical and social support centers, refused to have an abortion and were placed under medical supervision was 20.1%.
Since 2023, the Ministry of Health has been developing the practice of pre-abortion counseling: women who approach with the intention of terminating a pregnancy are offered a conversation with a psychologist, and in some cases, with a lawyer.
As of September 1, 2025, a law prohibiting the coercion of pregnant women into artificial abortion came into effect in the Kirov region.
The document prohibits any actions aimed at forcing an abortion—through persuasion, threats, bribery, or deception. The only exception is informing about medical and social indications, which is carried out by doctors within the framework of federal legislation. An administrative fine is provided for violations.
