Sokolov bragged about the airport opening "on time."
At the meeting, Governor Alexander Sokolov announced the opening of the "Pobedilovo" airport on July 1, 2026. "We promised that there would be an airport on July 1," the official said. "It will be launched from tomorrow. And it is normal to promise and deliver as promised. This should simply be a state of normalcy. There is no heroism in this. It is just the fulfillment of an obligation that we took upon ourselves and accomplished. A normal company did this, in a normal place, with serious federal funds provided to us by 'Rosaviatsiya' — two billion rubles."
The governor added that the runway surface at the airport has been completely updated. In his opinion, this, along with the earlier renovation of the "Pobedilovo" building, will allow for the development of the air transportation network and, in the future, bring the enterprise to self-sufficiency.
Interestingly, Sokolov, while speaking about the airport, seemed to forget that the deadlines for the runway repairs had been postponed twice. The work began on April 22, and it was initially promised to be completed by June 8; however, the date was first moved to June 20, then to June 30. As a result, many passengers were unable to fly from Kirov at the scheduled time and lost a considerable amount of money and nerves.
