A month without light: how a resident of Gnusino was helped by contacting the Newsler editorial office

      On May 27, 2026, the electricity supply to Ustyuzhaninov's house was cut off. According to the man, on that day he saw two unknown individuals break into the distribution board near the transformer substation and dismantle the equipment. He reported the incident to the police, but the investigation dragged on, and no culprits have been identified yet.

      It all started with a notice that the man found on the front door of his house on April 16. It stated that the overhead line supplying his house and neighboring buildings would be decommissioned by May 1 "due to dilapidation and lack of financial capacity for maintenance."

      The man sent a request to JSC "Gorelset" asking them to take the line onto their balance and not to disconnect the house. In a response dated May 6, the company stated that the line belongs to a private individual, is not abandoned, and the organization cannot "be responsible for its condition." The request to take it onto the balance was denied. The letter also indicated that for connection to the "Gorelset" networks, the man needed to extend the technical conditions and conclude an additional agreement.

      Meanwhile, the electricity meter, which was installed on the pole of the line in 2024, as revealed from the correspondence, belongs to JSC "Gorelset," and the account is opened for another individual.

      After the disconnection, the man contacted the prosecutor's office of the First May district. An inspection conducted by the supervisory authority showed that the overhead line VL-0.4 kV output "Dacha plots" from TP-612 exhibits signs of abandonment. In the prosecutor's response dated June 3, the following was stated:

      "Information has been sent to the head of the administration of the city of Kirov regarding the measures taken to register the electricity facility VL-0.4 kV output 'Dacha plots' from TP-612, at the addresses: Kirov, Gnusino village, Geolog Kassin street, houses 47, 45, 43, as abandoned, and measures to transfer them to the balance of JSC 'Gorelset' or the territorial network organization."

      However, the light in the house did not appear. The man and his wife lived for more than a month without hot water and lighting, and the gas equipment was not working. Friends provided a gasoline generator, but, according to Ustyuzhaninov, since June 19, gas stations stopped selling gasoline in cans.

      On June 24, our newspaper's editorial office sent an official request to JSC "Gorelset" asking for clarification on the situation and the timeline for restoring electricity supply. By the evening of the same day, Yuri Ustyuzhaninov informed us that electricity had returned to the house.

      According to him, this required signing an additional agreement to the 2017 contract and installing a new accounting board. The amount he has to pay within 30 days is 47,000 rubles.

      "For us, at the moment, such an amount is unaffordable," the man admits, but adds that he was forced to agree in order to restore the house's life support.

      As of the publication, there was no official response from "Gorelset" to the editorial request. However, the very fact that a problem that had not been resolved for more than a month was eliminated literally within hours after journalists' inquiries raises questions.
