Death postponed the trial of the "marauder."

      The reason for the "postponement" was the absence of the victim in court — Maxim Ovchinnikov, the son of the deceased, who was burying his grandfather Valery Leonidovich that day. After the death of his son Denis, he had the strength to cling to life for only 150 days.

      Let us remind you that on January 24, 2026, neighbors discovered the body of Denis Ovchinnikov in the stairwell, and the arriving ambulance confirmed the death. Soon, a team arrived to remove the bodies of the deceased. Two men efficiently removed the corpse from the steps, and after moving it to the landing, they quickly checked the pockets, appropriating Denis Ovchinnikov's money — six thousand rubles.

      The confident work of the two men was recorded by the internal stairwell surveillance camera, so the video published on Newsler.ru showing the "work of looters" can be called not only a hundred percent proof of the crime but also unique, essentially chronicling footage of "theft from the deceased." Thus, many residents of Kirov, who buried their loved ones and possibly had neither money, nor gold rings, nor even cross necklaces after the body was released from the morgue, were left without doubts that the deceased had lost all of this before his death.

      Let’s multiply everything by two.

      A criminal case was initiated only against one of the employees of the team that removed the bodies, who, after pulling bills from the dead man's pants, without a shadow of doubt, if not to say "habitually" or "routinely," stuffed them into his own pocket.

      As explained by lawyer Tatyana Bazhina, representing the interests of the mother and son of the deceased Denis, she intends to return the case to the prosecutor's office for reclassification — from the first part of Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation to the second. In her opinion, the theft was committed by a group of individuals.

      "You don't need to look particularly closely at the video to see how the second member of the funeral team helps the first check the pockets of the deceased. And he approvingly pats him on the shoulder when the bills move into his pocket," Bazhina explained.

      And, if for the investigation or the court, six stolen thousand is merely "petty theft," and even in the "group variant" is punishable by a maximum of five years in prison, then, by the standards of a believing person — this is a terrible sin.

      "If you just stole — it's one sin, if you took from the dead — it's double. I think that it’s not just a coincidence that the case of looting was caught on video... Not everyone who has seen such things with their own eyes will witness it. This was the hand of God and a sign for violating the eighth commandment — 'thou shalt not steal,' and is considered by the church as sacrilege. And, if the looter manages to escape human punishment, the punishment from the Lord will be many times worse. And it is very sad that such people start to believe and bang their heads on the floor, asking God for forgiveness when the punishment catches up with them... They should repent of their sin, but I think this sin is not the only one," reflects one of the priests of the Vyatka Diocese.

      However, speaking of "not just one sin," the cleric was right, and not even in terms of the probable "repeated looting," which, by the way, was not established by the investigation, although each outing "to the corpse" of the current defendant is documented, but in that the current defendant may have already served a sentence supposedly for... murder.

      But at the same time, the victim's lawyer and, even more strangely, the investigator in the "robbery of the deceased" case are convincing Maxim to reconcile with the looter, who "will go for administrative punishment." Meanwhile, the negotiators allegedly offer to "pay" for a settlement... 10 thousand rubles. Or a maximum of 20 thousand rubles, since the defendant has already "reimbursed the stolen under a receipt." Especially since today there is "nothing to take" from the defendant — he has been declared "bankrupt" (since November 2025) as an individual. That is, for the 15 years that the man has been free, he probably never learned to work and improved his life through bank loans.

      At the same time, as the lawyer explained to Maxim, it will be proven in court that his client took only one thousand rubles from Denis Ovchinnikov. This is hard to refute with video footage showing that the team member who went to remove the body puts bills into his pocket. Moreover, the prosecution is unlikely to agree with the defendant's arguments, as the prosecutor's office, having signed the indictment, is unlikely to state that "a mistake was made."

      Advice, after all, is not sinful.

      Interestingly, the Kirov police, which has been in the stage of preliminary investigation since February regarding "the fact of defamatory information about the looter" and "negative statements about the ambulance," is still sending requests to Newsler.ru for "clarification."

      At the same time, tired of reminding the Ministry of Internal Affairs that the "request prerogative" lies with the investigation within the framework of the criminal case or with the court in the civil proceedings, but not out of the curiosity of a precinct officer, the Publishing House advises visiting two court hearings on June 19, where the "case of theft from the deceased" and the compensation for moral damage "for failure to provide medical assistance to the dying" will be considered in turn, in order to complete the already four-month preliminary "investigation."
