Putin scheduled the State Duma elections for September 20, 2026.
Today, June 16, 2026, the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin signed Decree No. 428 "On the Appointment of Elections for Deputies of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the New Convocation." The document has been published on the official legal information portal.
According to the text of the decree, elections to the lower house of parliament will take place on September 20, 2026. This is the third Sunday of autumn — a unified voting day established by federal legislation. The previous elections for deputies of the eighth convocation took place in September 2021, thus the five-year term of the current Duma expires this autumn.
The legal basis for appointing the voting date is part 2 of Article 5 of the Federal Law dated February 22, 2014, No. 20-FZ "On the Elections of Deputies of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation," which empowers the head of state to determine the day of the elections.
The decree comes into force on the day of its official publication. This means that from this moment, the electoral process formally begins in Russia: political parties can nominate candidates for federal lists and single-member districts, and the Central Election Commission starts preparing the calendar plan of events.
On the website of the preliminary voting of "United Russia," a list of participants who plan to participate in the elections to the State Duma of the IX convocation from the Kirov region has been published. It includes 26 people from districts No. 106 (Kirovsky) and No. 107 (Kirovo-Chepetsky), as well as from the regional list. Among them are Andrey Olegovich Berezin (district No. 107, party member), Anastasia Alexandrovna Bortsova (on the list, party supporter), Boris Gennadyevich Vesnin (district No. 106, party member), Vladislav Nikolayevich Golovin (on the list, party member), as well as other registered participants. The final composition of candidates is determined after the completion of intra-party procedures and official nominations.
The State Duma is elected for a term of five years by a mixed system: 225 deputies are elected from party lists, and another 225 from single-member districts. The results of the elections are approved by the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation after the votes are counted. Kirov communists plan to nominate three candidates for the State Duma. Olesya Redkina commented on her participation in the elections to the State Duma. It has become known who determines the electors for electronic preliminary voting in district dumas.
