The passenger traffic on the "Lastochka" trains between Kirov and Nizhny Novgorod has increased by 21%.
From January to May 2026, more than 1.7 million passengers traveled on the high-speed trains "Lastochka" and "Burevestnik," operating on the Gorky Railway in connection with Nizhny Novgorod. The overall growth on the route was 12% compared to the same period in 2025.
On the Nizhny Novgorod – Moscow route, more than 1.6 million people used high-speed trains (+12% compared to January-May 2025), including over 1 million passengers on "Lastochka" and more than 595 thousand people on "Burevestnik."
A significant increase was noted in the connection between the capital of the Volga region and Kirov: 79 thousand passengers chose "Lastochka" (+21%). There was also an increase in passenger traffic between Nizhny Novgorod and Ivanovo, which amounted to 39 thousand people (+16.1%).
Russian Railways (OAO "RZD") notes that they are monitoring changes in demand and will increase the number of cars on high-speed trains if necessary. For example, the composition of the two-story "Burevestnik" on the Nizhny Novgorod – Moscow route has been increased to 13 cars by October 1, and train No. 723 "Lastochka" on the same route has been increased to 10 cars during the June holidays.
Passengers of high-speed train No. 723 "Lastochka" can test a new service — confirming their identity without presenting paper documents. This type of identification can be used by passengers over 18 years old who provided their valid passport details when purchasing a ticket and consented to RZD's access to their biometrics. Registration in the Unified Biometric System and on the "Gosuslugi" portal is also required.
