In Omutninsk, trees are being cut down as part of the landscaping.
In Omutninsk, residents have appealed to stop the logging of trees that is taking place as part of the landscaping project "Path of the Salamander." According to the townspeople, during the discussion of the project, there was talk of creating new recreational areas and improving the territory, but information about the large-scale logging of trees was not disclosed.
It is reported that the decision to cut down the trees was made later. At a meeting of the public council on greening issues, it was stated that the root system of the existing plantings interferes with the planned work. After that, at the end of May, machinery entered the area and began cutting down birches and poplars.
According to local residents, some trees have already been removed, and now people are trying to save the remaining birches on Yunyh Pionerov Street. Earlier, lilacs, rowan trees, and bird cherries were also cut down.
In exchange for the felled plantings, the authorities plan to carry out compensatory landscaping. According to the announced information, it is planned to plant 146 trees and 978 shrubs. However, residents point out that different figures appear in the documentation — 329 trees and shrubs without specifying their age.
The townspeople doubt whether the young saplings can replace trees that have grown for decades. Residents are also concerned that without further care, some of the new plantings may not survive.
According to the People's Front, public activists have sent an appeal to the district administration regarding the preservation of the remaining trees.
