"Grandmothers' salaries" discussed in the Federation Council
Senator Vyacheslav Timchenko proposed to scale up this support measure at a meeting of the Federation Council. The law on "salaries" for grandmothers was developed by deputies of the Legislative Assembly of the Kirov region from "United Russia" — Elena Alexandrovna, Irina Morozova, Alexey Potapenko, and Nikita Solomennikov. The measure provides for payments to grandmothers or grandfathers who care for a grandchild — the firstborn of their mother. According to Vyacheslav Timchenko, the amount of the "grandmother's salary" may be:
about 40,000 rubles if the child is born to a woman aged 24 years or younger
about 39,000 rubles if the mother is 25 years or older.
The senator emphasized that the difference in payments is intended to stimulate childbirth at a younger age and contribute to an increase in the number of children in families. He urged his colleagues to study the Kirov experience in detail and implement similar support in their regions. Valentina Matviyenko agreed on the importance of the initiative. She noted that any measures aimed at improving the demographic situation need the support of all regions.
