Dredger on the Vyatka: equipment that hasn't been seen for 30 years has arrived in Kirov.
The dredger that will clear the fairway is already in Kirov. According to the Ministry of Transport of the Kirov Region, the equipment will work on a 10-kilometer section of the river within the city limits — from the Old Bridge to the village of Bolshaya Gora. At the same time, this year it is planned to maintain the parameters of the shipping channel in those sections of the Vyatka River where they were established in previous years. Dredging work on the river has been ongoing for several seasons. Over the years, the parameters of the shipping channel have been recorded in several segments. This has allowed the resumption of cargo transportation from Sovetsk to Kirov — for the third year, gravel has been transported along this route, which is also used in the implementation of the national project "Infrastructure for Life." Additionally, the dimensions of the shipping channel from Vyatskiye Polyany to the border with the Republic of Tatarstan have been established earlier. As a result, passenger ships can now come here. Following the work in 2026, it is expected that the total length of the sections of the Vyatka River with guaranteed shipping channel dimensions will be 68 km. Navigation on the river traditionally lasts from May to October.
