In Kirovo-Chepetsk, a 52-year-old local resident was convicted for fatally hitting a 79-year-old cyclist while intoxicated. This was reported by the press service of the prosecutor's office for the Kirov region.
The fatal accident occurred on October 4, 2024, on Ganinskaya Street. The woman was driving a KIA RIO and was in a state of intoxication. Instead of driving on the roadway, she drove along the shoulder — and it was there that she hit the elderly man on the bicycle.
The pensioner died from his injuries.
In court, the defendant fully admitted her guilt and partially compensated the relatives of the deceased for moral damages.
The prosecution insisted on paragraph "a" part 4 of article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violating traffic rules while intoxicated, resulting in the death of a person through negligence). The court agreed and sentenced her to 2.5 years in a settlement colony, as well as banned her from driving for another two years.
However, the verdict is not yet final — the convicted woman has filed an appeal.
