The fire at the Kirov Lyceum was extinguished before the arrival of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
Yesterday, May 15, closer to four o'clock in the afternoon, an event occurred at the lyceum on Vozzrazhdeniya Street, which the Ministry of Emergency Situations describes as exemplary. The fire alarm that went off turned out to be real, not a drill.
The cause of the smoke in the library was a short circuit in the ceiling light fixture. However, before professional firefighters arrived, the fire was extinguished by the staff of the institution, who used fire extinguishers to put out the flames over an area of 0.4 square meters.
A total of 88 people were evacuated from the building, including 66 students. According to the regional emergency management office, there were no injuries. The firefighters who arrived at the scene essentially just documented the effective actions of the staff.
The system worked as it should: the alarm timely alerted people, and the fire extinguishers were readily available and in working condition.

The alarm at the Natural Sciences Lyceum went off not for a drill, but for real. The cause was a short circuit in a light fixture, but the staff handled it themselves — the fire extinguishers activated before the fire crews arrived.
