Tatiana Moskalkova has left her position as ombudsman.
On May 14, State Duma deputies supported the candidacy of Yana Lantratova for the position of federal ombudsman through a secret ballot. This was reported by RBC. A total of three candidates were considered: besides Lantratova, they were Artem Prokofyev (CPRF) and Ivan Sukharev (LDPR).
The powers of Tatyana Moskalkova expired on April 21. According to the law, the same person cannot hold this position for more than two consecutive terms. State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin thanked Moskalkova for her work.
On May 12, President Vladimir Putin met with Moskalkova and personally thanked her for ten years of work, calling her activities "very significant and diverse." During her tenure, the demand for the ombudsman institution has increased almost threefold.
Moskalkova herself began her career in the pardons department of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR, then worked in the legal service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, rising to the position of first deputy head of the legal department and the rank of Major General of Police. In the late 1990s, she ran for the State Duma from "Yabloko," but did not receive a mandate, and in 2007 she became a deputy on the lists of "Fair Russia." She worked in the Duma until her appointment as ombudsman.
Yana Lantratova served as the responsible secretary of the Human Rights Council from 2015 to 2019, and in 2021 she received a mandate as a State Duma deputy from the same party.
