Rake, broom, and birdhouse: passengers of the GZhD forgot more than a thousand items on the trains.
In January–March 2026, employees of the Gorky Railway returned more than 1,200 items left by passengers on long-distance trains.
Travelers most often forget documents, phones, and other gadgets, as well as clothing and accessories. However, among the found items, there are also unexpected objects — for example, a hoverboard, a rake, a birdhouse, a broom, and even a stage costume.
To retrieve a lost item, passengers need to submit a request on the Russian Railways website in the "Services and Services" section. They must provide personal information, trip details, and describe the lost item, as well as recall where exactly in the carriage the item might have been left.
Currently, Russian Railways is testing a new search system. Requests will be sent directly to the train conductor and attendants, allowing them to start looking for forgotten items during the trip, rather than after the train arrives.
