Kirov has found itself on the list of lagging cities in terms of quality of life.
The ranking of Russian cities by quality of life for the first quarter of 2026 includes Moscow, Grozny, Sochi, St. Petersburg, and Vladikavkaz. Also in the top 10 were Kaliningrad, Yekaterinburg, Novorossiysk, Kaluga, and Vologda. This was reported by RIA Novosti, citing a study by Alexander Shatilov, the deputy scientific director of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation.
At the same time, Kirov was among the cities where, according to experts, the quality of life needs to be improved. This list also included Arkhangelsk, Astrakhan, Barnaul, Volgograd, Irkutsk, and several other cities.
Analysts separately assessed the parameters of quality of life. Thus, the availability of housing is noted to be highest by residents in Orenburg, Khabarovsk, and Murmansk. The best environmental situation was recorded in Grozny, Vladikavkaz, and Novorossiysk.
The ranking was compiled based on several indicators: income levels, housing availability, quality of medicine and education, environmental conditions, landscaping, the performance of utilities and city authorities, as well as opportunities for residents' self-realization.
