Since the beginning of 2026, more than 1,200 residents of the Kirov region have fallen victim to crimes involving information and communication technologies. This was reported by the regional press service of the prosecutor's office.
In just the last week, the number of victims has increased by 58 people, and the total damage amounted to 41 million rubles. Since the beginning of the year, residents of Kirov have already lost 283.1 million rubles.
Fraudsters most often pose as employees of law enforcement agencies, the prosecutor's office, the FSB, or specialists from the "Gosuslugi" portal. They also call on behalf of telecommunications operators and, under the pretext of extending a contract, ask for personal data.
In addition, criminals have begun to actively use artificial intelligence technologies. With their help, they impersonate a person's voice and deceive their relatives.
The prosecutor's office noted that to protect the victims, 459 lawsuits have been filed in courts in 2026 to recover money from so-called "droppers," as well as 24 lawsuits to declare invalid credit agreements made under the influence of fraudsters.
