Kirovstat: unemployment in rural areas reached 2.7%, exceeding urban figures by two times.
The economically active population of the Kirov region last year amounted to 581.1 thousand people. Of these, 571.7 thousand had paid jobs or temporary earnings, while 9.4 thousand were classified as unemployed according to the methodology of the International Labour Organization (ILO).
The main thing that stands out in a detailed analysis is the divide between urban and rural areas. In rural areas, the unemployment rate reached 2.7%. In cities, this figure is almost exactly half — 1.3%. The situation in the countryside remains noticeably more tense, despite the overall stability of the labor market.
The average unemployed person in the region is a 41-year-old man or woman. After losing their job, residents of the region spend almost four months searching for a new position (3.8 months on average). At the same time, 8% of job seekers are in a state of stagnant unemployment — they have been unable to find work for a year or longer.
It is interesting to see what methods of job searching Kirov residents choose. Personal connections are the main tool: 81% of the unemployed seek help from friends, relatives, and acquaintances. The internet and media are used by 60%. However, only 9% go to the state employment service — this is the least popular channel among all those listed.
As for the employed, 92% of them work for hire. Only 7% are engaged in entrepreneurship. Women make up 48% of the total number of workers, dominating in education (84%), healthcare (82%), and retail (71%). Men are most firmly established in construction (96%) and manufacturing (68%).
The average age of a working Kirov resident is 43 years. The overwhelming majority of the employed (92%) are of working age. Among those who continue to work after retirement, 71% are women.
The number of employed in 2025 has practically not changed compared to 2024, which specialists from Kirovstat interpret as a sign of the stability of the regional labor market. The main problems still have a structural nature and are related to geography and sectoral imbalances.
