The loading of metal and construction materials on the GZhD has sharply decreased.
In January–March 2026, cargo loading on the Gorky Railway amounted to 6.1 million tons, which is 6.5% less than in the same period last year.
As reported by the company, the decline is associated with a decrease in the transportation volumes of several bulk cargoes. The most significant reductions were observed in the shipments of ferrous metals — down 43.6%, cement — down 34.5%, construction cargoes — down 20.9%, and forest products — down 11.5%.
At the same time, growth was recorded in certain categories. Thus, the loading of oil and petroleum products increased to 2.63 million tons (+3.2%), grain — to 148.3 thousand tons (an increase of almost 2.5 times), and coke — to 152.6 thousand tons (+8.5%).
Also, over the three months, 637.1 thousand tons of forest cargoes, 524.8 thousand tons of fertilizers, 334.4 thousand tons of chemicals and soda, 293.1 thousand tons of ferrous metals, 217.2 thousand tons of industrial raw materials, and 205.6 thousand tons of cement were loaded on the railway.
The freight turnover for the reporting period amounted to 32 billion tariff ton-kilometers, which is 18.6% lower than a year earlier. Taking into account the empty run of wagons, the figure reached 39.6 billion ton-kilometers (-17.1%).
