Most Kirov companies — 59% — do not pay any attention to the presence of bad habits in applicants at all. Another 31% of employers acknowledge the fact of smoking but do not consider it a disadvantage.
At the same time, even in organizations where management does not smoke, the share of those who choose non-smokers is only 13%. In companies with smoking top managers, this figure is even lower — 8%.
Experts note that a direct refusal to hire due to smoking is formally considered discrimination, so it is not applied in practice. Nevertheless, in a number of professions, non-smoking candidates still have an unofficial advantage.
This most often concerns fields with constant contact with people: medicine (for example, nurses and cosmetologists), education (teachers and educators), as well as administrative staff, sales consultants, and office employees.
