In Kirov libraries, they have started to "reprogram" the classics.
As previously reported by Newsler.ru, hundreds of works have fallen under the new requirements — from Erich Maria Remarque to Viktor Pelevin. We decided to check how one of the main libraries in the city is coping with this.
Officially, they did not comment on the situation, limiting themselves to the statement: "the library operates within the framework of the law." But in practice, everything turned out to be much clearer.
What we saw:
the novel "Germ" by Remarque (18+, 2005 edition) is already issued with a label — there is a warning sign on the cover, and a corresponding inscription on the back
"Fight Club" by Chuck Palahniuk (18+, 2014 edition) is also issued with a label — "clean" copies could not be found
some books from the "lists" are either completely absent in the library or have been moved to the 18+ section.
At the same time, there are also curious cases: for example, the novel "A Matter of Principle" by Denis Dragunsky (16+), where the theme of drugs is not present, has already fallen under restrictions and has been removed from sale, but it is available in the library. We managed to find an old edition of "It" by Stephen King (18+) — such books are not found for sale now, but they are still available in the library, as are other works by this author.
More details about the new rules that came into effect on March 1, as well as about the books that have been labeled, can be read here.
