A resident of Malmyzh "saved" her husband's money and gave it to scammers.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the first call came to the husband's mobile phone. Unknown individuals, posing as employees of a mobile company, reported a debt for communication services and requested a code from a text message. The victim's wife, wanting to help, dictated the secret numbers, after which she immediately suspected a scam. The woman quickly transferred all funds from her husband's bank accounts to her cards, believing that she had secured them.
However, soon another call came in, this time answered by a man. The caller introduced herself as an employee of "State Services" and confirmed the family's worst fears: the fraudsters had indeed gained access to the personal account and personal data. The woman took the phone and explained to the "specialist" that all of her husband's money was already safe — in her accounts.
But the fake employee convinced the woman from Kirov that the measures taken were insufficient. According to the caller, not only her husband's savings were at risk, but also the woman's personal savings. To ensure their safety, it was strongly recommended to immediately transfer all available funds to a special "savings account" of the Central Bank. The woman had no time to doubt the truthfulness of the words: immediately after, she received a call from a fake representative of the Central Bank, who dictated the details for the "safe" transfer.
Following the instructions, the 43-year-old resident of Malmyzh sent 125,000 rubles to the fraudsters' accounts. The realization that she had fallen for the scammers' bait came to the woman only after the conversation with the strangers ended.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Kirov region reported that a criminal case has been initiated regarding the fraud. The police urge citizens to stop conversations with strangers in messengers, no matter who they claim to be, and not to carry out financial transactions at their direction.
