It became known when Russians will take a break in February and May.

Two key months — February and May — will give Russians additional days to recover, and proper planning will help turn them into a full vacation.

      Short February with long weekends

February 2026, the last month of winter, will be quite comfortable for working Russians thanks to Defender of the Fatherland Day on February 23. The holiday falls on a Monday, providing three consecutive days off: February 21, 22, and 23.

In total, the month has 9 days off (February 1, 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22, 23, 28), while there will only be 19 working days. The week after the holiday (starting February 24) will be short — only four working days.

Is it worth taking a vacation in February? From a financial perspective, it is not the most profitable month due to the small number of working days. However, there are advantages to this decision: vacation can be combined with the holidays from February 21-23, significantly extending the rest, as well as saving on travel during the low season.

      Two waves of May holidays

When planning for spring, it’s worth paying attention to May 2026, which will offer two convenient portions of rest:

From May 1 to 3 — holidays in honor of Spring and Labor Day.

From May 9 to 11 — holidays in honor of Victory Day (Saturday, Sunday, Monday).

Here lies a great opportunity for a long vacation. If you take 5 days off from May 4 to 8, then combined with the holidays, you can get an uninterrupted break from May 1 to 11 — a full 11 days! This is the perfect duration for traveling across Russia — from excursions in the cities of the Golden Ring to relaxing in Crimea or the Caucasus.
