A Kirov resident robbed an online marketplace of 3.5 million rubles.
An investigation in Kirov has been completed into a criminal case against a 22-year-old local resident who is accused of 25 counts of theft from the pick-up points of one of the marketplaces. The investigation established that the young man worked as a pick-up point operator and knew the order and return system well. He created several accounts in the marketplace’s app, ordered expensive items, and then in the pick-up point’s restroom, where there are no cameras, swapped them for objects of similar weight. After that he processed a return. When customer complaints began to arrive and it became clear that the substitutions were occurring during the shifts of the same operator, the man stopped showing up for work and took jobs at other pick-up points. Using the same scheme, he operated at pick-up points on Mostovitskaya, Orlovskaya, Lomonosova, Fizkulturnikov and Nikitskaya streets. According to the police, he stole a total of 92 items — smartphones, graphics cards and memory cards — worth more than 3.5 million rubles. The suspect was caught red-handed at a pick-up point on Fizkulturnikov Street. Items used to substitute the goods and packing materials were found on him. Part of the stolen goods that he had not yet sold was also found in his apartment. The man fully admitted his guilt and partially reimbursed the loss. The criminal case has been sent to the prosecutor’s office for approval of the indictment. The young man faces up to 10 years in prison.
